A perfect way to hold acrylic or other thin sheets to a metal object. Can support 3mm to 5mm sheets.
Includes 4 strong Neodymium Magnets and 4 high quality threaded nuts with a choice of. No glues or double sided tape is required for normal use. Glue can be added to the nut if you wish for it to be a more permanent fixture.
All you need is some small holes in the material and you can then install the magnets via addition of the threaded nuts. We feel these are a better long term solution vs traditional magnet installation via glue or adhesive tape. Plus, these can be re-used for other projects or acrylic photo prints. These are very strong for their size. 4 Magnets are capable of holding close to 6kg, however this will depend on how slippery the metal surface is. For context, a 600mm x 300mm piece of 3mm acrylic weighs about 0.5 kg. Price is for a pack of 4 magnets and 4 threaded nuts.
The magnets are very strong and could scratch delicate metal surfaces if dragged across them. Some customer have cut small vinyl dots to place over the magnet base to act as a protective layer if concerned.
FAQs
Q. What size hole do I need to incorporate to fit these standoffs?
A. We would suggest a 3.25mm hole. If using a drill bit, then a 3mm hole would be fine.
Q. How strong are these?
A. Just one of these little magnets can support a full 600ml water bottle hanging from it.
Q. How many do I need?
A. It depends on what you’re hanging and the how thick the surface is. Thicker metal will help the magnet to attract more strongly. Usually 4 magnets are required for fridges etc, But maybe only 2 if you’re attaching to a steel shed wall.
Q. Why can’t the nut tighten against the acrylic when using 3mm sheets.
A. We have designed the thread length to be slightly longer to accommodate for larger sheets up to 5mm thick. Please note when using 3mm thick acrylic there will be a slight gap between the locking nut and the acrylic sheet. This design allows the nut to be tightened, whilst still allowing some movement of the magnetic standoffs. This is beneficial when when using these magnets on a curved metal surface as it allows the magnets to conform to the shape of the surface whilst still holding the acrylic.
