Important:
– As this is a natural product, every piece is unique and will feature different characteristics and colour tones
– Basswood cuts are often slightly larger vs advertised. Eg 455 x 610mm
– As these sheets are precut to size, a mixture of grain structure or colour tone may occur
Q. How does BC grade differ from AB grade?
A. The key difference is the amount of dark characteristics within the sheet. AB grade will have minimal dark features or knots whereas a BC grade sheet may have more. Often this is mainly on one side of the sheet hence the BC grading as one side is often better then the other. The surface will be smooth and will still have the same quality constructions suitable for laser cutting. BC grade is currently 20% cheaper and is still a high quality sheet that is hand picked by our team. We also have a downgraded Basswood listing that captures any sheets that has a large amount of dark features, knots or imperfections and fail to meet our high AB or BB standard. Downgraded sheets are currently 40% cheaper vs AB grade sheets.
Below is an example of a BC graded sheet showing more character. – 20% cheaper vs AB grade
Below is an example of a downgraded sheet due to manufacturing error – 40% cheaper vs AB grade
Q. Is this easy to laser cut?
A. Yes, this laser plywood uses an interior grade glue and cuts and engraves easily. Always follow instructions provided by your laser cutter manufacturer and always run adequate air extraction when laser cutting any materials. Wait and allow the laser cutter to fully evacuate all fumes before opening the machine.
Q. How does this plywood differ from Hoop Pine?
A. Only the highest quality basswood veneers have been chosen to ensure an appearance grade finish on both sides. Our bass wood laser plywood has a smooth finish without the presence of any cracks or filler. Below is a comparison images to help provide additional context.
Q. Are the sheets flat?
A. All plywood sheets are prone to changing shape due to moisture and heat changes. To help reduce this we store our plywood flat, out of direct sunlight and dry within our factory. Basswood laser ply is a little more resilient due to it’s increased number of layers used in its construction, especially 6mm which has 7 layers. Sheets may have some shape to them, but this will be rare.
Q. How do you package the plywood
A. Our stock is carefully cut and packaged. We use heavy duty custom boxes to send the majority of our products including plywood. Below is 600x400mm and 600x600mm hoop pine orders being packed.
Additional Information:
- As this is a natural timber product, each sheet will be unique in terms of grain pattern and the presence of darker sections or darker grain.
- Minor imperfections may occur, but should only be isolated.
- It is recommended to store your plywood sheet with a weight on top of the entire sheet and to store in a dry area out of direct sunlight or varying temperatures.
- Sheet measurements may have a variance of +/- 5mm as we do us a vertical panel saw to cutdown plywood.
- Whenever cutting this material make sure you are using proper fume extraction ventilated outdoors with adequate airflow
